　　Wutong trees (commonly known as the Chinese parasol trees) are said to be where phoenixes perched. Tongxiang was named after the Wutong trees planted widely in ancient times, meaning "the land of Wutong." With eight towns and three sub-districts under its jurisdiction, the city covers 727 square kilometers with a population of 1.05 million. At the Second World Internet Conference, General Secretary Xi Jinping spoke highly of the development of Wuzhen and Tongxiang, saying it has taken on a "refreshing and eye-catching new look." In the first half of 2023, the total regional GDP of the city reached 57.5 billion yuan, with total fiscal revenue and general public budget revenue reaching 11.2 billion yuan and 6.8 billion yuan, respectively, ranking 21st among the top 100 counties in China.

　　When the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held, there were 58 party members in the country, including the two brothers of Shen Yanbing and Shen Zemin from Tongxiang. Tongxiang is also the hometown of Wang Huiwu, "guardian of the first CPC Congress," and Zhang Qinqiu, a female general of the Red Army. From the birth of the first party organization in Tongxiang to 1949, there were 29 party organizations and hundreds of Communist Party members who fought tenaciously on the land of Tongxiang. A group of revolutionary martyrs and people with lofty ideals emerged,including Kong Lingjing, Chi Gengxiang, Chen Danchi, and Zhan Xingmin. In recent years, Tongxiang, as an important area of the Red Boat's starting point, has closely focused on the goal of building a new highland for the Red Boat Party building. It has not forgotten its original intention, kept in mind its mission, and solidly promoted the Red Roots Project.With standardized construction and brand enhancement, it has seen the formation of a "Pioneer Red" for party building in the entire region, successfully becoming a pioneer county in grassroots Party building in Jiaxing. In 2022, the Central Organization Department made a special trip to Tudian Town to research grassroots Party building, forming the "1+365"Tudian model of rural grid governance.

　　In 2014, the World Internet Conference permanently settled in Wuzhen, Tongxiang. General Secretary Xi Jinping participates in the conference in different forms every year. Fully devoted itself to holding the conference, Tongxiang also actively undertook the dividends of the conference and continued to polish the golden card of the "Internet plus" highland. Tongxiang also makes great efforts to promote the Wuzhen Internet Innovation and Development Pilot Zone's construction, vigorously implementing the "No.1 Development Project" for digital economy innovation and improvement. Cooperated with the School of Materials Science and Engineering in Tsinghua University and the Yangtze Delta Region Research Institute of Tsinghua University, it has set up a strategic science and technology innovation platform--Wuzhen Laboratory, which has become a "growth pole" for urban scientific and technological innovation. The "Light of Wuzhen" has become a national supercomputing center, the only one in Zhejiang. It has established the first "Home of Academicians" in the province and the only one in Jiaxing, with 55 academicians living here. 12 research and development institutions have been set up with leading enterprises, and national high-tech enterprises and provincial high-tech enterprises have exceeded 1700. It has been selected into the list of national innovative county. Wuzhen High-tech Zone has become a provincial-level zone. In the first half of 2023, the number of digital economy enterprises in the city exceeded 3400. The output value of the core manufacturing industry in the digital economy reached 13.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%. The "industrialization and digitalization" integration index remained at the forefront of the province. Tongxiang is also the first county-level city in China to build an international Internet-dedicated channel, and constructing a "smart city" is at the forefront of the province.

　　Tongxiang is one of the first strong industrial cities in Zhejiang Province, with world-class leading enterprises such as Jushi, Tongkun, Xin Fengming, and Huayou. Three enterprises have been listed in the top 500 Chinese enterprises, and four have been listed in the top 500 Chinese private enterprises. More than 180,000 market entities and over 40,000 enterprises have jointly formed a pillar industry system mainly focusing on the digital economy, new materials, new manufacturing, new fashion, etc. In the first half of 2023, the total output value of industrial enterprises above the designated size reached 115 billion yuan, and the total market value of 10 listed companies ranked first in Jiaxing. "Nezha" Automobile won the sales champion in 2022. Four entrepreneurs were invited to participate in the G20 Summit in Indonesia, which became a vivid epitome of Tongxiang's deep integration into the " Belt and Road" construction. Puyuan Town is China's largest production base and distribution center for sweaters and knitted clothing, with the largest industrial scale, the densest agglomeration, and the most complete industrial chain. Its annual market turnover exceeds 100 billion yuan, winning the honor of "No.1 Town of Fashion in China". Tongxiang is also one of the first cities with a strong service industry in the province, with the total service industry ranking first in Jiaxing.

　　Tongxiang has a civilization of 7000 years and a city history of over 1000 years. The Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal flows through it, covering over 40 kilometers. Majiabang, Liangzhu, Grand Canal, and ancient town cultures complemented each other. Well-known as a land of fish and rice, home of silk, and a county of civilization, Tongxiang is more than a fertile piece of land. It has produced renowned literati, including Zhang Lvxiang, Lv Liuliang, Mao Dun, Feng Zikai, and Mu Xin. Taking advantage of these cultural treasures, Tongxiang has created a series of cultural brands, such as Mao Dun Literature Awards, Feng Zikai Arts, and Bohong Reading Room, and has built such landmark facilities as the New Library, City Archives Center, Fitness Center, and Future Plaza. The Bohong City Reading Room has branches covering the whole city, and cultural auditoriums have become the "spiritual home" of the villagers, making Tongxiang even more prominent with cultural features. Over the years, Tongxiang has been granted a number of national-level honors, such as China Cultural Model City, Home of Chinese Folk Arts (Cartoons), Home of Calligraphy, Home of Photography, Home of Literature, and Home of New Opera. 　　Tongxiang has a world-renowned tourist attraction--Wuzhen Scenic Area and Puyuan Fashion Town, which blends water scenery with fashion. It is the only county in Jiaxing to have two provincial 5A-level scenic towns and has won honors, such as China's Excellent Tourism City and Provincial Tourism Demonstration City. Wuzhen has been awarded such titles as "Top Ten Historical and Cultural Towns in China," "Top Ten Charming Towns in China," and "Top Ten Most Beautiful Villages and Towns in China." In recent years, Tongxiang has promoted the construction of beautiful Tongxiang, beautiful towns, and beautiful villages with comprehensive scenic areas. 　　Tongxiang is the birthplace of the "Three Governance Integration" in China, a demonstration city for building a harmonious community in China, and one of the province's top ten counties (cities, districts) in social governance. It has won the first batch of two-star safety golden tripod in the province and was awarded the first demonstration county for safe China construction. In recent years, Tongxiang has continuously increased investment in people's livelihoods, leading the country in urban-rural coordinated development. In 2022, urban and rural residents' per capita income ratio was 1.51:1, making it one of the regions with the smallest ratio in the country. Various social undertakings such as education, health, and elderly care are under coordinated development, the "Learning in Tongxiang" education brand continues to shine, the construction of the "Medical Community" is leading in the province, and residents' pension insurance and medical insurance have basically achieved full coverage.
